Company Profile

Zhuhai Essex Bio-pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. a solely foreign-owned enterprise invested by Essex Bio-Technology Ltd., is mainly engaged in the research, development, manufacture and sale of genetically engineered bio-pharmaceutical products.

The company was registered on June 10, 1996 and the total capital was 20 million RMB . Its manufacturing workshops, R & D Center, Marketing Center are all in compliance with GMP. A series of genetically engineered bio-pharmaceutical drugs have been successfully developed and two of them were classified as state-level category I new drugs. The main brands of the company’s products are Beifuji, Beifushu and Beifuxin. The successful development of Beifushu and Beifuji enables Essex to stand in the world leading position in the development and manufacture of wound healing drugs.

Essex was accredited to undertake a National Key Technologies R&D project of the Ninth Five-year Plan and a project of China Touch Program successively. Its products were awarded “Certificate of State Level New Products” and “Certificate of Key New Products ” in Guangdong Province. It is a Hi-tech Enterprise accredited by Guangdong Science and Technology Bureau and was awarded by the State Council of the PRC “ the Second Prize of State Science and Technology Progress”

Course of Development

In 1996	Zhuhai Essex Bio-pharmaceutical Co.Ltd was incorporated and accredited as New High Technology Enterprise by Guangdong Province.
In 1997	Essex was entrusted with one of the hi-tech projects of the State Touch Program – development and Industrialization of biopharmaceutical products using recombinant bFGF as the primary active ingredient;
In 1998	The company’s first genetically engineered new drug Beifuji in liquid form and lyophilized powder form was approved by Chinese SFDA for commercialized production, and validated as state level new drug in the same year.
In 1999	The company’s second genetically engineered new drug Beifushu in eye-drop form was approved by Chinese SFDA for commercialized production, and validated as state level new drug. Essex was awarded the Third Prize of State Science and Technology Progress Awards in the same year.
In 2000	Essex was approved against GMP Validation for the first time, and obtained the GMP Certificate issued by the state.
In 2001	EssexBio Group was successfully listed on Hong Kong Growth Enterprise Market.
In 2002	Zhuhai Essex Medipharm Co. Ltd. was incorporated.
In 2003	Direct Representative Offices (DROs) Offices were established in major provinces in China.
In 2004	Zhuhai Essex Medipharm Co.Ltd. was approved against GSP validation; Zhuhai Essex Bio-pharmaceutical Co.Ltd. was awarded the Second Prize of State Science and Technology Progress Awards.
In 2005,	New production lines for single dose Beifushu eye drops and chemical ophthalmic solutions were set up. Beifuxin gel for external use and Beifushu eye gel were approved by Chinese SFDA for commercialized production.
In 2006,	Beifushu has been a well-known brand Rx ophthalmic solution in China.
In 2007	Zhuhai Essex was granted the exclusive agency right for Chinese market by the Italian company ABC Farmaceutici S.P.A. for its drug substance and capsules of Ursodeoxycholic acid.
In 2008	Zhuhai Essex was granted exclusive agency right for Chinese market by the U.S. company InSite Vision Incorporated for its patented new drug AzaSite (Azithromycin ) ophthalmic solution.
In 2008	Essex was certified as National Hi-tech Enterprise in China; Established long-term partnerships with InSite Vision Incorporated and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. with the purpose of introducing their innovative ophthalmic products to China.
In 2009	Essex was certified as Zhuhai Key Enterprise Technology Center; Our chemical drug tobramycin eye drop was approved by SFDA for commercial manufacture; Co-developing tosufloxacin eye drop and betaxolol eye drop with Jinan Bestcomm Pharmaceutical R & D Co., Ltd.; Co-developing biological tissue engineering materials - biological amnion with Guangdong Shiguang Ophthalmologic Research Institute
In 2010	Beifushu was recognized as Guangdong Province Famous Brand; The construction of Essex’s new factory was kicked off.
